Kansas City, Mo. (KMOX) –  The family of a Missouri boy with serious health issues has lost a court hearing they hoped would help them regain custody.

The parents of 8-year-old Jaxon Adams are accused of Munchausen by Proxy, a disorder where parents seek treatment for a child as a way to get attention for themselves.

Jaxon was taken into custody by child protective services last September.  He has a history of severe food allergies and food intolerance that his mother Tiffany tells KMOX led doctors to first place him on a feeding tube, then insert a tube directly in his abdomen.  When his parents saw no improvement they asked for another opinion.  That’s when they say the physician called the state’s child abuse hotline.
On a facebook page dedicated to Jaxon’s case, the family’s attorney says they are still discussing their next steps, but plan to fight the ruling.
